Finally, he confesses to Sara that when he became a machine, he realized what it is to be human and what is the meaning of the relationship. And when original Amy stays as a robot in the house, doing all those house work that robot used to do, he realizes in the process that his ambition had almost made him a machine. Instead, he dismantles the robot and becomes robot to get the property. For his own selfish reasons, he doesn't confront Sara. However, Sara's happiness doesn't last long, as real Amy comes to know about the fact that a machine has replaced him. And hilarious situations arises, when the deeds of rude Amy are juxtaposed with the behavior of kind and loving Amy, that is a robot. Except Sara, nobody knows this fact that a machine has replaced Amy. Once the robot comes in the house in the absence of real Amy, the entire family is very happy, as the robot is soft spoken and well behaved. She replaces her real husband, who works like a machine, with a machine that behaves like an ideal husband, son and the father. The real story begins when a typical Gujarati maniben Saraswati orders for a robot (actually cyborg i.e., a machine having almost all the qualities of Man), which is the look alike of her husband.
That is the reason why Amy's own mother doesn't want the Amreli property to be sold, as she feels that once that is done, Amy will kick them all out of the house. Her ma-in-law Ganga and her son Jamuna Das share the same feeling. Saraswati, whom Amy prefers to address as Sara, feels ignored. Though he loves his family, he doesn't have much time to spend with them. His ambition has made him busy and rude, too. To fulfill his dream, he wants to sell off his property based in Amreli, his hometown, in Gujarat, India.
This unique and light-hearted fantasy is the story of US based Gujarati motel manager Amthalal, who dreams of having his own motel in America. NRI Amthalal deals with a subject which is hitherto unexplored in Gujarati theatre. If a man starts acting like a machine and machine starts acting like a man, then what would happen? The answer to this lies in a comic tale of an ambitious husband and a meek wife.
